Two stones side by side, one 5mm and full of color, one small and clear, each wrapped in a smooth bezel and linked straight into an 18K gold plated chain. It says something quietly: two people, two birth months, or simply a color you love with a little extra sparkle beside it. The larger stone comes in hessonite garnet, African amethyst, green onyx or white zircon.
- Smooth bezel edges. A thin metal rim circles each stone, so nothing snags on knits or hair.
- Collarbone length chain. It opens from 15 out to 18 inches, from the hollow of the throat to the collarbone.
- Stays centered. The pair links to the chain at both sides, so it faces forward instead of spinning.
A Two Stone Necklace with Meaning
A two stone necklace is often chosen to stand for two people, a couple, a parent and child, two best friends, and the uneven pair here, one larger stone and one small accent, keeps that idea from feeling too literal. It works just as well as a self purchase, with the clear accent acting like a highlight next to the color.
Several of the stones double as birthstones: garnet marks January, amethyst February, and white zircon is one of December's stones. Green onyx suits anyone after a clear, grassy green.
What 18K Gold Plating Means
Desiregem lists the metal as 18K gold plated brass, a layer of gold over a brass base rather than solid gold. The gold on the surface is real, and the brass underneath gives the piece its shape and keeps it light, about 2.9 grams in all.
Plating lasts longest when it meets fewer chemicals, so put it on after lotion and perfume, and it keeps its color longer. Take it off for swimming and workouts, and run a soft cloth over it before it goes back in its pouch.
Why a Bezel Setting Matters
Prongs show more of a stone, while a bezel trades a little sparkle for comfort and a clean outline. The rim protects the edge of the 5mm stone, roughly a fifth of an inch across, and gives each gem a thin line of gold plating that makes it look slightly larger than it is.
Two Stone Bezel Necklace Choices
Is gold plating real gold? The surface layer is real 18K gold, applied over brass, so it is gold colored metal on the outside but not solid gold all the way through. Treat it kindly and it keeps that warm color.
Which stone suits a January birthday? Hessonite garnet, the January birthstone, which shows here as a deep reddish brown beside the clear accent.
Will it sit too high on a crew neck? At 15 inches it rests just above a crew collar; set it at 18 and it moves down onto the collarbone, which suits open necklines better.
