Product Type: Earrings

These titanium CZ stud earrings are made for ears that grumble about bargain bin studs. Fashion Hut lists the posts as implant grade titanium, Ti6Al4V ELI, topped by a clear round CZ in 3mm, 4mm or 5mm.

  • Lighter than steel. Titanium weighs about 45 percent less than steel.
  • 20 gauge post. 0.8mm thick and 11mm long, a touch sturdier than most.
  • Clear round CZ. Prong set in three small sizes.
  • Metal and rubber backs. Both come with each earring.

Titanium Stud Earrings for Sensitive Ears

Titanium stud earrings are the first thing many people try when their lobes itch or redden around mixed metal posts. Fashion Hut describes this titanium as hypoallergenic and implant grade, and Ti6Al4V ELI is the alloy covered by the ASTM F136 standard, a mix of titanium with about 6 percent aluminum and 4 percent vanadium. The light weight is the everyday win: a titanium stud barely tugs at the lobe, even in the 5mm size.

Longer 11mm Posts

At 11mm, about 7/16 inch, the post is longer than many fashion studs, which leaves room behind a thicker earlobe for the clutch to sit without pinching. If your lobes are thin, slide the rubber back a little further along the post for a closer fit. The 20 gauge thickness makes the post stiff enough to push through cleanly without bending. Note that 20 gauge is a little thicker than the 22 gauge posts on many fashion studs, so a snug lobe may feel it the first time. It is sold as a pair, so one order covers both ears.

Titanium Versus Surgical Steel

Both metals are popular choices for sensitive ears, but they are not the same. 316L surgical steel holds some nickel locked into its alloy, while Ti6Al4V contains none at all. If steel studs have bothered you before, titanium is the logical next pair to try. It also keeps its color with no polishing, so the studs look the same in a year as on the day they arrive.

Titanium Stud Daily Wear

What does ELI mean? Extra low interstitial: a purer version of the Ti6Al4V alloy with tighter limits on oxygen and iron, which makes it a little tougher.

Is titanium darker than silver? Polished titanium has a slightly grayer tone than silver or steel; beside the clear CZ it reads as a cool, quiet metal.

Will titanium tarnish? No. Titanium forms its own thin oxide layer that protects it, so wiping it with a soft cloth now and then keeps it bright.
