Product Type: Necklaces

A round faux pearl floats inside an open almond shaped frame, and from it a fine chain drops 1.5 inches to a tiny bezel set crystal, so the necklace draws a clean Y down the neckline. It comes from Knotty in gold-tone stainless steel, with an adjustable chain from 16.25 to 18.25 inches.

  • A built in Y. The fixed drop styles itself on deeper necklines.
  • Low fuss pearl. An imitation pearl skips the delicacy of natural nacre.
  • Two inch range. The chain adjusts over 2 inches, so the pearl sits higher or lower.

Pearl Drop Necklace on a Y

A pearl drop necklace puts the pearl at the center and lets everything else lead the eye toward it, and the Y shape here adds a second line that points straight down. The open frame around the pearl is the clever part: it gives the pearl a crisp outline, so it looks deliberate rather than floating loose.

Y shapes look best with necklines that echo them, so V-necks, scoop necks and shirts worn open at the collar are its natural partners.

Imitation Pearl, Real Practicality

Knotty lists the metal as stainless steel and states that it will not tarnish and suits sensitive skin. Knotty also lists the pearl as imitation, a coated bead with a pearly finish, and the crystal at the tip as cubic zirconia.

An imitation pearl brings the look without the worry, but its coating is still a surface, so keep it away from perfume and from knocks against harder jewelry. A soft cloth after wearing and a pouch of its own keep the finish smooth.

Where the Crystal Lands

The pearl frame measures about 1/2 inch and the drop adds 1.5 inches below it, so the crystal tip ends roughly 2 inches lower than the chain itself. At the 16.25 inch setting that puts the tip just below the collarbone; open it to 18.25 and the whole Y moves down toward the top of the chest, which suits a deeper V.

Pearl Y Necklace Styling

Is it a lariat necklace? In shape, yes, it has the lariat's Y and vertical drop. Unlike a classic lariat, the drop is fixed in place, so there is nothing to thread, slide or tie.

Does a Y necklace suit a crew neck? It works, with the drop resting on the fabric, but it looks best where the chain can follow skin, so save it for plunging and open necklines when you can.

Which chains layer well with it? A short chain or a slim tennis style necklace at 15 to 16 inches above it. Keep the Y as the longest piece so the drop hangs freely.
