The Lime Green Tailored Blazer Shorts Set is a suit with the trousers cut short. That single change moves the whole thing out of the rooms tailoring usually goes to, which is worth settling before the colour is even discussed.

What Shorts Do to a Suit

A matching jacket and trouser reads as business by default, whatever colour it is. Cut the bottom half short and that reading disappears completely, while everything that makes it tailoring stays in place: peak lapels, a double-breasted closure, patch pockets, pleats and a belt.

That is also why the blazer is cut oversized rather than close. A sharp fitted jacket over shorts reads as a mismatch between two halves; a relaxed one reads as the decision it is.

Why the Shorts Are Pleated

Deep pleats and wide volume do on a short what a full leg does on a trouser. They carry the eye from waist to hem in one line instead of breaking it at the hip, which is the difference between a tailored short and a smart pair of shorts.

The integrated belt with a covered buckle is doing the other half of that job. Under an oversized jacket a waist has to be drawn deliberately or the two halves merge into a single block, and a covered buckle draws it without adding hardware to a look already carrying a strong colour.

Where Lime Green Belongs

A saturated lime is about as loud as tailoring gets, and it behaves accordingly. Against white, cream, black and denim it is the only decision in the outfit and the rest of the look assembles itself. Against another bright, a print or a warm metallic it competes and neither wins.

Its limits are real and worth stating. It is wrong in any room with a stated dress code, because shorts are shorts however well cut, and it is wrong in cold weather because there is nothing to layer underneath a short. What is left is warm daytime and early evening, which is most of what a summer set is bought for.

Measure the bust at its fullest with the tape level under the arms, the waist at its narrowest, and the hip around the widest point, keeping the tape snug but not tight and taking every figure over what you intend to wear underneath.

One row has to serve a jacket and a short at once, and the two halves forgive very differently. The blazer is oversized, so a near miss at the chest disappears into the cut. The shorts are not, so let the hip decide and let the belt take up whatever is left at the waist.
