Two whisper thin chains, two lengths, two shapes at the ends: these chain drop earrings in rose gold plated brass hang 3 inches from a small stud, with a polished open ring on one chain and a white howlite bead on the other. Knotty calls the design Tessa, and the chains sway each time your head turns.
- Uneven lengths. The ring sits higher and the bead hangs lower, so the pair never reads as a single straight line.
- Real stone. Knotty lists the bead as white howlite, a natural stone with gray veins, so no two beads match exactly.
- Three inch line. From the stud, the bead reaches roughly to the jaw on most faces, long enough to frame it.
- Feather weight. Superfine chain and a single small bead keep the pull on the lobe light.
Dangle Earrings That Lengthen a Neckline
Dangle earrings work by drawing a vertical line, and a 3 inch line is long enough to change how a neck and jaw read. Worn with hair tucked behind the ear or pulled up, they stretch the whole profile. With hair down, the chains slip in and out of view as you move, which is half the fun.
The contrast does the styling for you. Rose gold plating warms the skin tone near the face, and the white howlite gives the eye a cool, matte point to land on. That pairing suits soft knits, a crisp white shirt and summer linen equally well.
What White Howlite Asks of You
Howlite is a soft, slightly porous stone that rates only about 3.5 for hardness, softer than window glass. It takes a bump in a jewelry box badly, so give these earrings their own pouch or compartment. Keep lotion and perfume off the bead, because a porous stone can drink in oils and yellow at the surface. Treated that way, the bead keeps its chalky white and its fine gray veining for years.
The rose gold finish is plating over brass, a thin layer of gold alloy. Water, sweat and friction wear plating fastest, so take the earrings off to shower, swim or work out, and rub them gently with soft flannel when you take them off.
Tessa Drops on Long Days
What is howlite? A white to gray mineral with dark veins running through it, often dyed blue to stand in for turquoise. This bead keeps its natural white, which is why it pairs so cleanly with rose gold.
Do 3 inch earrings get tangled in hair? Fine chain can catch on loose curls or a scarf, so lift your hair over the earrings when you put on a coat or a knit. Up, half up or tucked, they hang free.
Are these too long for the office? They are long but delicate, which most workplaces read as dressy rather than loud. If you want them shorter on the day, wear your hair down and let it cover the top half.
