Product Type: Earrings

Two chunky chain links locked together and fixed to a post: these chain link stud earrings are 3/4 inch long and made in plated brass with surgical steel posts. Knotty offers them in 14k gold plate, rose gold plate and rhodium plate, so the same shape works with whatever metal you already wear most.

  • Curb link shape. Each link is slightly flattened and twisted, the way a curb chain is, so the faces catch light at an angle.
  • Steel posts. The part that goes through the ear is surgical steel, not the plated brass of the links.
  • Three finishes. Yellow, pink or bright white, chosen from the selector above.
  • Short and bold. At 3/4 inch, they look substantial without swinging.

Chain Earrings Without the Dangle

Chain earrings usually hang: a length of chain from a hook, swaying with every step. This pair turns the chain into a stud, two links stacked on the lobe and staying put. You get the weight and confidence of a chain piece in a size that works from morning meetings to late dinners. They pair naturally with a curb chain necklace or bracelet, and they hold their own with a plain tee.

The links have rounded, gently beveled faces, so on gold plate they glow warm, on rose gold they read softly pink, and on rhodium they flash bright white, close to how platinum or white gold looks.

Picking Between Three Plated Finishes

Start with the jewelry you wear daily. A watch or rings in yellow metal point to the 14k gold plated pair; mixed metals or a warm wardrobe of camel, blush and cream point to rose gold; a silver watch or white gold rings point to rhodium. Rhodium is a platinum family metal, prized as a plating because it is hard and very white. It is often the plating on white gold rings for exactly that reason.

Plating is a thin layer, and how long it lasts depends on care. Keep these studs dry, put them on after makeup and perfume, and give them a separate pocket in your jewelry box so the links do not scrape a neighbor.

Classic Chain Studs and Their Finish

How long does gold plated jewelry last? On earrings, which rub against far less than rings or bracelets do, plating can look new for a long time when the pair stays dry and is wiped after wearing. Water, sweat and chemicals are what shorten it.

Will the plating rub off on my skin? No; plating is bonded to the brass and does not transfer. What can happen with heavy wear is a gradual lighter patch where the metal underneath begins to show.

What do chain link studs go with? Anything with a chain in it, from a curb necklace to a watch on a link bracelet, plus crisp shirts and fine knits. They also give a plain tee and jeans a finished look with no other jewelry.
