Product Type: Evening Gowns

Teal, coral and mocha are not the shades a formal rail is usually stocked in, and that is the argument for the Beaded Halter Satin Gown with A-Line Skirt. In a room where the default evening palette is black, navy and burgundy, all three of these read as a decision rather than a default.

Three Shades Off the Default

Teal is the boldest of the three and the one that photographs deepest under warm light. Coral is warm and daytime-leaning, which suits a summer reception better than a winter gala. Mocha is the quiet one, a warm near-neutral that behaves like a colored version of nude.

Between them they cover a summer wedding, an autumn evening and a formal dinner without any of them looking like the obvious choice.

A Plain Skirt on Purpose

Everything decorative on this gown is at the neckline. The skirt is a clean satin A-line with no beading, no split and no gathering, falling to the floor from the waist without interruption, and a back zipper keeps even the closure out of sight.

That restraint is what makes the beading register. A gown that sparkles in three places gives the eye nowhere to settle; this one has a single focal point and a long uninterrupted line beneath it.

Guest Weddings and Award Nights

A wedding as a guest, an awards dinner, a formal birthday and a cruise evening all suit a floor-length satin A-line, and the sleeveless halter keeps it wearable in a warm room.

Check what your accessories are made of before choosing teal or coral. Both are saturated enough to argue with gold, and both sit awkwardly beside a wedding palette built on pastels. Mocha is the one that takes any metal and any scheme, so it is the safer pick when you do not know the room.

Reading a Halter Band

All three colors are cut across all seven bands.

Size chart, measured in inches
Size Bust (in) Waist (in) Hips (in)
XS 33 25.5 37
S 34 26.5 38
M 36 28.5 40
L 38 30.5 42
XL 40 32.5 44
2XL 43 35.5 47
3XL 46 38.5 50

Every figure above is in inches and is taken on the body rather than on the finished garment, so measure the fullest part of the bust, the narrowest part of the waist an inch or two above the navel, and the fullest part of the hips.

The bust figure carries this gown and the hip figure carries nothing at all. An A-line skirt leaves the waist and never returns to the body, so choosing on the hip measurement produces a gown that is loose exactly where the fit is decided. Take the larger band if bust and waist disagree, and have the side seams brought in.

Beading, Zippers and Storage

Will the beading catch on a wrap or a stole? Beads set into a neckline sit proud of the satin, so an open-knit wrap draped over the shoulders can hook on them. A close-woven pashmina or a satin stole passes over without catching.

Can a back zipper be altered easily? Yes, and it is one of the simplest alterations on a gown. A concealed back zip runs in a plain seam with no boning or beading crossing it, so taking the bodice in is quick work and rarely expensive.

How does satin behave in a warm room? It stays cool against the skin and it shows perspiration more than a textured cloth does, particularly at the small of the back where the zipper runs. A sleeveless cut helps; a dress shield helps more.

How should it be stored between events? Hanging, with the halter supported rather than looped over a thin hanger. The neckline carries the beading and the whole weight of the bodice, so a padded hanger keeps the strap from stretching over months.
