Product Type: Evening Gowns

Both colorways on this gown are a color paired with nude, and that pairing is doing something specific. The One Shoulder Rhinestone Lace Gown with Sheer Back sets turquoise or coral lace over a nude ground, so the lace reads as pattern on skin rather than as pattern on fabric, and the rhinestones sit on top of that.

Color over a Nude Ground

Lace on an opaque base of the same shade reads as a textured dress. Lace over nude reads as an applied pattern with the body visible between the motifs, which is why this construction turns up on red carpets and rarely on the high street.

It also changes what the color does. Turquoise on nude stays bright and graphic; coral on nude softens into something warmer and closer to the skin. The two colorways are further apart in effect than their names suggest.

Rhinestones on Lace

Stones are set into the lace rather than scattered over the fabric, which means they follow the pattern instead of interrupting it. Under a flash they return light in points while the lace stays matte around them.

The back is sheer with a zipper running through it, and the neckline is asymmetric over one shoulder. Between the sheer back, the nude ground and the single shoulder, this gown shows more skin than its silhouette suggests from the front.

Galas and Red Carpet Evenings

An awards evening, a gala, a formal birthday and a black tie reception all suit a gown built to photograph. The A-line skirt keeps it wearable for a night that involves standing and dancing rather than only sitting.

Decide about the nude ground before you order. Nude is manufactured to one shade and skin is not, so the ground either reads as your skin or reads as a fabric that is nearly your skin. That is a judgment only you can make from the photographs, and it is the single thing most likely to change how the gown looks on you versus on the model.

Six Bands Two Colorways

Both colorways run across the bands offered.

Size chart, measured in inches
Size Bust (in) Waist (in) Hips (in)
XS 33 25.5 37
S 34 26.5 38
M 36 28.5 40
L 38 30.5 42
XL 40 32.5 44
2XL 43 35.5 47

Every figure above is in inches and is taken on the body rather than on the finished garment, so measure the fullest part of the bust, the narrowest part of the waist an inch or two above the navel, and the fullest part of the hips.

Order on the bust figure and treat the hips as informational, since an A-line skirt falls away from the waist and never touches them. Where two bands look possible take the larger, because lace with stones set into it cannot be let out at a seam without disturbing the pattern.

Sheer Backs and Stone Care

What can be worn under a sheer back? Adhesive cups only. A band crosses exactly the panel that is meant to be seen, and against a nude ground a dark band reads as a stripe rather than disappearing.

Will the rhinestones come loose? Set stones can work free where the gown rubs against a seat or a bag strap, and they are replaceable individually. Check the seams after each wearing rather than before the next event.

Can a lace gown with stones be altered? Yes, by someone who will match the lace pattern across the seam and reset any stones that sit over it. It is slower and dearer than altering a plain gown, so allow weeks rather than days.

How should it be stored? Hanging, in a bag, with nothing pressing on the stoned areas. Set stones crush the lace beneath them when a gown is folded under weight, and that flattening does not lift out.
