Product Type: Throw Blankets

This ivory throw is all texture: rows of shaggy tufts, raised loops, two dark herringbone bands and a thick knotted fringe at both ends. Boutique Rugs calls the design Boondall and lists it as hand woven, with a 90% cotton front and a 100% cotton back. It measures 50 by 60 inches, the size most stores sell as a standard throw.

  • Texture does the work. Tufts, loops and flat weave sit side by side, so one color reads as several shades.
  • Dark stripes anchor it. The near-black herringbone bands keep a pale throw from fading into white bedding.
  • Fringe with heft. A 3 inch knotted fringe gives each end enough weight to hang straight off a sofa arm.

What Makes a Boho Throw Blanket

A boho throw blanket wins on texture before color, and this one is built almost entirely from texture. Window light catches the tufts, the loops and the flat stretches differently, so the ivory shifts from cream to soft gray as the day moves. That is why it looks at home on a rattan chair, a linen sofa or a plain white bed: the pattern lives in the surface, so it never fights the colors around it.

The dark herringbone bands are its only graphic note. Line them up with the edge of a seat cushion or a rung of a blanket ladder and the whole arrangement looks intentional rather than tossed.

Styling It on a Couch

To style a throw blanket on a couch, start at an arm rather than the middle. Fold this one in half lengthwise, drop it over the arm so one fringed end rests on the seat, and let the rest fall loose toward the floor. Folded like that it is 25 inches wide, enough to dress a standard sofa arm without swallowing it. On a sectional, tuck it into the corner seat instead, where the tufts are seen from two sides.

Off duty, hang it over a rung of a ladder with a striped band facing out, and the fringe becomes the finishing line at the bottom.

Caring for Tufted Cotton

Boutique Rugs says to spot clean with mild detergent and apply low heat when necessary, which suits a throw whose tufts and loops would rather not tumble through a full wash. Blot a spill straight away, work from the outside of the mark toward the middle, and let the spot dry flat. Every so often, give the fringe a shake and run your fingers through it so the knots stay separate.

Ivory Boho Throw Around the House

Does an ivory throw show dirt quickly? Less than a smooth white one would. The raised tufts and loops break up the surface, so a little dust or a faint mark disappears into the texture instead of sitting on a flat field.

Which shades sit well beside ivory? Warm, natural ones: rattan, oak, terracotta, olive and rust all sit well beside it. Because the herringbone bands are nearly black, it also slips into a black and white room and softens the contrast without adding a new color.

When does interest in cotton throws peak? Search interest in cotton throw blankets starts climbing in September and tops out in December, when a warm cotton layer earns its place on the sofa every night.
