Open-Front Cardigan

An open front cardigan has no buttons to do up, which turns out to be a design decision rather than an omission. Without a fastening the two front panels hang as long vertical lines either side of the body, framing whatever is underneath and lengthening the silhouette in the process, and there is no button placket to gape across the bust. It also means the cardigan never has to fit closed, so it accommodates a wider range of shapes than a buttoned one, and layers cleanly over a dress or a printed top that deserves to stay visible.
